2007 Dober Invitational Wish Child

"Team Josh"

Josh is 11 years old and will be starting 7th grade in the fall at Avon Middle School . Look out for him racing down the halls in his big red power wheelchair! He was born in South Africa and moved to Avon with his mother when he was 5 years old. He's an only child, but denies being spoiled (ha,ha).

He is passionate about wild animals and dogs. Josh has a pumpkin-colored pet guinea pig named Squirt. Just like any other 11 year old boy, he's addicted to video games, the internet, and anything electronic he can lay his hands on. He also likes to fish and won the fishing competition at Boy Scout camp last year. As a Cub Scout he earned his Arrow of Light Award. This sociable kid is also an active member of Riot, the Middle School group at Valley Community Baptist Church .

Josh loves the freedom of swimming and enjoys snorkeling. Last winter he joined the Maine Handicap Ski program and had a blast. He used a sit-ski and was tethered down the mountain by the amazing volunteers.

Of course, he's a Red Sox fan and can often be seen scouring tag sales for old baseball cards (sorry Dober).

Josh is recovering well from the major spine surgery he underwent in Boston in May. We're all hoping and praying that he makes a complete recovery, and will be ready for his big trip to Hawaii in August.

With heartfelt appreciation to Dober, his staff, all the participants, corporate sponsors, volunteers and of course “The Make A Wish Foundation of Connecticut". Both Josh and I are grateful for all of your collective efforts in sharing in the power of Josh's wish.

Regards,

Sharon Werner (Josh's Mom)
